WORSHIP SONG:
Start a Fire - Unspoken

5 GRATITUDES (Thank you, Heavenly Papa!):
  • Thank you God I got to save more than 80% on the kids' school books from Half.
  • Thank you God for the kids' willingness to help plan the vacation.
  • Thank you God the kids are resourceful.
  • Thank you God that I'm able to somewhat function, despite so little sleep.
  • Thank you God today is a new day.
THOUGHTS:
  • The school book lists came out for my kids' school 12:01 am.  I had a plan of attack on how I would get these books and knew that the kids' school has a vendor we can buy from and most of the time, they are A LOT more expensive than I can get.  They give all the ISBN numbers, so that was what I was looking for.

Last year, I found that if I bought all the books from half.com, I could save a ton of money.  I did a comparison between several places - the schools' vendor, Amazon, Amazon Marketplace, Half, and a couple other places that sell school books.  It turned out buying off of Half was the least expensive overall because if you buy multiple items (you get discount shipping on items 2 and beyond from that same seller).

Some of those same sellers are on Marketplace, but the shipping is the same for every item no matter how many you buy from the same seller.  I can get free shipping from Amazon, but when a book costs even $7 with free shipping, I can buy from Half for $0.75 + $1.89 shipping, so that obviously the total is much less.

The school's vendor it would have cost over $600 and they didn't even have 2 of the books, which would have brought it closer to $700, as they were the ones that cost more than $0.75 for me.  I ended up paying $132.45 for 27 books, and 9 of them were big textbooks.  I can't believe how many books these kids have to get.  Most of the 27 were consumables.

I'm thankful the one book I have chosen each year to not get was their Latin textbook for at home use.  That is an expensive book, but it's also small, so my son can bring his home.  His big textbooks, I bought copies for him to have at home and he will have copies at school already from the book deposit that every student needs to have.  Having an extra copy of his textbooks at home, minus the Latin, allows him to not have to carry a super heavy backpack ladened down.  Same with my daughter.  Thankfully we have our daughter's 7th and 8th grade and hope they are the same so we don't have to rebuy.

Oops, I forgot about our daughter's Spanish class, so that is another $25.  It would have been another $147 from the school's vendor.  So basically if we average out what I would have spent total with this vendor would have been near $750 and I still needed to find 3 of the books elsewhere because they didn't have it.  So, really, maybe $850-900 for school books for a 6th and 9th grader?  Good grief.
  • Despite having so little sleep, I did alright.  Peace between my husband and I.
  • My husband and I went and picked up a bunch of free maps and guides from AAA.  Lots of stuff and the lady was really nice.
  • Took me a long time to get my work done today, but I was tired, but wasn't sleepy enough to take a nap, though I tried.  Just feeling very wired.
  • My daughter really helped out a lot.  She did the laundry partially, the harder part while I was running errands and she also got dinner for us.  My son did lunch for me.  So the kids really helped out a lot and helped me be less stressed.  Thank you, God.  My son wanted to clean the bathroom, but I said wait until Thursday, because I want things cleaned before we go on vacation.
  • Was able to schedule for our pest control company to come out to see if my dad's house has termites.  He keeps a lot of stuff against the house and it's not good.  Safety hazard, but also invites bugs and stuff into the place.  They originally couldn't fit us in, but as I asked and insisted, they found an hour for us.  It's not our normal bug guy that comes out, who is going on vacation, too.
  • My dad is feeling much better and has been doing his normal stuff.  No issues.  That's really good.
